Angelus has manufactured paving stones in Southern California since 1946, local to the region, shorter lead times, and products tested against our exact conditions.

Their integral iron oxide pigments go all the way through the paver (not surface-applied), so color holds up under High Desert UV for 25+ years. At 8,000+ PSI compressive strength, Angelus pavers are more than double the strength of poured concrete. Monarch Landscape & Design has installed Angelus pavers across all seven High Desert cities since 2009, and we carry their full product catalog so you can see real samples before choosing.

Every Angelus paver job we do starts with the same foundation: break through the caliche with hydraulic equipment, build a properly compacted class II base with drainage, then lay pavers on a surface that won’t shift. Soil conditions vary city to city, Cajon Series pure sand in Victorville and Barstow, clay-heavy Adelanto Series with argillic horizons in Adelanto, decomposed granite subgrade in Phelan, and transitional DG/alluvial mix in Oak Hills. The paver on top only performs as well as the base underneath, which is why we spend more time below grade than above it. Serving San Bernardino County’s High Desert and the greater Inland Empire with professional Angelus paver installation.

Anatomy of an Angelus Paver Installation

Seven layers from surface to subgrade. Every Angelus paver job we build follows this structure.

Angelus Pavers Surface
The finished surface, Courtyard Stone, Antique Cobble, Estate Cobble, Holland, Timberline, and more. Color-through iron oxide pigments at 8,000+ PSI compressive strength. Interlocking designs resist shifting from desert thermal cycling. Available in 34+ color blends.
Polymeric Sand Joints Joints
Polymer-modified sand swept into the joints between pavers, then activated with water. Hardens to lock pavers together, prevents weed growth, and resists ant tunneling. Reapply every 5-8 years in the High Desert depending on foot traffic and sun exposure.
Sand Setting Bed Leveling
1-inch layer of coarse bedding sand screeded to a precise, uniform thickness. Provides the final leveling surface for paver placement. Too thick and pavers settle unevenly; too thin and you lose the cushion needed for minor base imperfections.
Compacted Base Foundation
6-8 inches of Class II base rock compacted in 3-4 inch lifts, each wetted to 8-12% moisture and compacted to 98% Proctor density per ICPI standards. This is what separates a 20-year paver job from a 3-year one. Driveways get 8+ inches; patios and walkways get 6 inches minimum.
Edge Restraints Structure
Rigid edge restraints spiked into the compacted base around the full perimeter. Prevents pavers from creeping outward under load and thermal expansion. Without edge restraints, joints widen over time and the entire field shifts, especially in desert heat where expansion is extreme.
Geotextile Fabric Separation
Non-woven geotextile fabric between the subgrade and compacted base. Prevents base rock from migrating down into the native soil over time, maintains base integrity, and improves drainage. Especially important over clay-heavy Adelanto Series soil and the caliche hardpan found across the High Desert.
Subgrade Prep Desert Soil
Break through caliche hardpan with hydraulic equipment, excavate 7-12 inches depending on application, and grade for proper drainage slope. Soil conditions vary city to city: pure sand in Victorville, clay horizons in Adelanto, DG in Phelan. The base only works if the subgrade underneath is properly prepared.

Why We Install Angelus Pavers

Not all pavers are created equal, and in the High Desert, the difference shows fast. Angelus has manufactured paving stones in Southern California since 1946, local to the region, shorter lead times, and products engineered for this exact climate. At 8,000+ PSI compressive strength, Angelus pavers are more than double the strength of poured concrete (3,500–4,000 PSI). Here’s why we recommend them for most residential and commercial projects.

  • Made for Southern California: Angelus manufactures in the region, engineering their products for the exact UV intensity, thermal cycling, and alkaline soil conditions we deal with every day
  • Color-Through Manufacturing: Angelus uses integral iron oxide pigments throughout the paver, not a surface-applied coating. Chips, scuffs, and surface wear don’t expose a different color underneath. The iron oxide pigments resist UV breakdown, giving Angelus pavers a 25+ year expected color life even under High Desert sun
  • Widest Color Selection: 34+ color blends across three families: earth tones (Sand, Stone, Mocha, Adobe, Copper), grays and charcoals for contemporary looks, and Tuscan multi-tone warm blends. Lighter colors recommended for desert heat, available across every product line
  • Timberline Wood-Look Pavers: Natural wood-plank aesthetic without the rot, termites, and maintenance. Concrete durability with wood-grain texture that holds up in 110°F heat
  • Permeable Options: Angelus offers permeable versions of Aqualina, Courtyard Stone, Holland, and Slate Stone pavers. Wider joint spacing allows water to infiltrate through aggregate-filled gaps, reducing flash flood runoff and meeting San Bernardino County LID stormwater requirements

Angelus Paver Product Lines We Install

Five Angelus product categories, each with full color options for your High Desert project.

Angelus Timberline Pavers

Wood-plank look in concrete paver form. Timberline replicates natural wood grain without the rot, termite damage, or maintenance that real wood suffers in the desert. Same 8,000+ PSI strength and iron oxide color-through manufacturing as standard Angelus pavers. Available in weathered gray, cedar, and natural wood tones. Installs on the same engineered base, popular for patios, walkways, and pool deck accents where you want warmth without the upkeep.

Interlocking Concrete Pavers

The core of most Angelus installations. Holland, Antique Cobble, Castle Cobble, Estate Cobble, Heartland, and Paseo series in color-through concrete rated at 8,000+ PSI. Interlocking designs distribute load and resist shifting from the High Desert’s 95-degree annual temperature swing. Herringbone pattern for driveways (highest interlock strength), running bond or random ashlar for patios. Available in 34+ Angelus color blends.

Permeable Pavers

Angelus permeable pavers, available in Aqualina, Courtyard Stone, Holland, and Slate Stone, allow rainwater to drain through wider joints into an engineered aggregate base. Reduces flash flood runoff during monsoon storms and may qualify for SB County stormwater credits under LID requirements. Over caliche, we punch drainage channels through the hardpan so water actually has somewhere to go instead of pooling under the base.

Slab & Patio Pavers

Larger-format Angelus slabs, Courtyard Stone, Torino, Porcellana, and Symetry series, for modern patio designs. 12×24 inch formats in 60mm thickness for residential patios. Smooth and textured finishes in neutral desert tones. Fewer joints create a cleaner, more contemporary look while still providing the durability and repairability that individual pavers offer over poured concrete.

Wall & Cap Products

Angelus Bastione Wall Stone, Rustic Wall Stone, Stonewall II fire pit blocks, and Planter Wall systems, all available in colors that match their paver lines. 6×14 Bullnose coping caps for pool edges and wall tops. Build a seating wall, fire pit surround, or raised planter in the same color family as your patio pavers for a unified look.

What Do Angelus Pavers Cost Installed?

Angelus pavers run $25 to $35 per square foot installed in the High Desert. That price includes caliche excavation, the engineered base, edge restraint, and labor, not just the pavers.

UsePatios and walkways (60mm pavers)Driveways (80mm pavers, heavier base)

Example: a 300 sq ft patio in Angelus pavers runs $7,500 to $10,500 installed. The Angelus lines we install most are Antique Cobble, Courtyard, and Holland for paving, plus Rustic Wall Stone and Planter Wall for seat walls and planters. We quote every job on site, because slope, access, and how much caliche sits under your yard change the base work.

Cities We Install Angelus Pavers

From our Hesperia headquarters, we serve the entire Victor Valley, High Desert, and greater Inland Empire region of San Bernardino County.

Victorville Hardscapes

Cajon Series pure sand with caliche at 18-36 inches. Angelus pavers on engineered base handle the sandy alluvium and thermal cycling. Serving Spring Valley Lake, Eagle Ranch, Green Tree, and new construction throughout the city.

Hesperia Hardscapes

Our home base. Hesperia Series sandy loam throughout most of the city. We install Angelus pavers across every neighborhood, from Silverwood new construction to established homes along Main Street. Full color sample consultations available at your property.

Apple Valley Hardscapes

Helendale Series soil with deep clay influence. Rocky terrain at Sycamore Rocks adds excavation complexity. Jess Ranch 55+ communities, golf course lots, and HOA-approved Angelus paver installations in every color blend.

Adelanto

Adelanto Series soil has the most caliche in the service area. The clay horizon at 8-40 inches traps water under paver bases if drainage isn’t engineered from the start. Budget extra for excavation. Active new construction pipeline with 600+ homes in the development queue.

Phelan

DG subgrade instead of alluvial sand, with 1-5 acre lots. Freeze-thaw rated base prep is critical, Phelan gets 80-100 nights below 32°F. Cajon Pass wind loads and elevation add engineering considerations for large paver installations.

Barstow

Cajon Series sand that is highly alkaline, Bryman soils in parts of Barstow reach pH 9.0. Hottest city in the service area with 70-80 days over 100°F. Lighter Angelus color options strongly recommended. Serving MCLB and Fort Irwin families.

Oak Hills

Transitional DG and alluvial soil on elevated terrain. Second-coldest city after Phelan, freeze-thaw considerations for base prep. Wind exposure of 40-60 mph on the mesa. Large lots with significant paver installation opportunities.

Angelus Pavers FAQs

What are Angelus Timberline pavers?
Angelus Timberline pavers replicate the look of natural wood planks using interlocking concrete. You get the warm wood-grain aesthetic without the rot, termite damage, and maintenance issues that real wood faces in the desert. Timberline pavers are UV-stable, rated for extreme heat, and install on the same engineered base as standard pavers. Popular for patios, walkways, and pool deck accents.
How much do Angelus pavers cost installed?
Angelus pavers run $25 to $35 per square foot installed, depending on the product line and pattern. Specialty products like Timberline wood-look pavers run slightly higher. A 300 sq ft patio runs $7,500 to $10,500. Caliche excavation and engineered base are included in every install. Call (760) 792-7627 for a free on-site estimate.
Why choose Angelus pavers over other brands?
Angelus is a Southern California manufacturer, so their pavers are specifically engineered for our climate. Color-through manufacturing means the color goes all the way through the paver, not just a surface coating that chips away. They offer the widest color selection in the region, produce specialty products like Timberline wood-look pavers, and their interlocking designs resist shifting in the desert’s thermal cycling.
Can Angelus pavers handle 110°F desert heat?
Yes. Angelus pavers are manufactured in Southern California for this exact climate. Their color-through manufacturing resists UV fading, and lighter color options stay noticeably cooler underfoot than dark pavers or stamped concrete. We recommend Sand Stone, Desert Tan, and cream-blend colors for pool decks and patios where people walk barefoot.
